A very close, 2 pass, cold water, face lather shave

2nd time with this head, after my 1st pass I was wondering if i even needed more passes it is that efficient. Went with 2 passes as normal in the end, BBS.

It's not the smoothest shave, but damn the results are excellent!

I'll use a 7 O'Clock Black or Iridium in it next as they are nice smooth blades

*erasmic cream - 2 lavender EO drops added
*Isana boar brush
*Gillette New

gillette yellow (2)
Boots freshwood A/S and balm

used my 1934 Gillette New for the 1st time (instead of the 43C) - what a lovely razor. i slowed my shave right down as i need to show a bit more care when using the open combs. it was nice to consider it's history as i was shaving - something I'm sure we've all done using a vintage.

All in all - a very satisfying shave. no nicks or soreness.

Warm shower
Hot flannel
DR Harris Arlington cream scuttle lathered
Kent BK8 brush
Gillette OC Old type
Polsilver super iridium (1)
Cold rinse
Witch hazel
DR Harris Arlington aftershave

Comfortable shave very pleased with the result today. I bought this old type razor last week. It was sitting in its tatty box scruffy looking and unloved. I gave it a good scrub with some cillit bang limescale cleaner. Then followed with some silver polish and buffed with a micro fibre cloth. The result was a major improvement. The silvers missing on the bent handle but it still shaves well for a razor over 85 years old.

Brian

Greetings

What a lovely razor, I fail to see why 'Olds' receive such poor reviews, I think they shave delightfully!

Regards
Dick.

Gillette Slim Adjustable
Gillette Super Thin Platinum (2)
Kent BLK8 silvertip
Speick shaving cream
Proraso Aftershave lotion

AM: Diptyque Volutes edt
PM: Serge Lutens Serge Noire

The Kent is interviewing for its own job; a bit of corporate restructuring is seeing the business reassess its future ambitions. I fancy narrowing from 5 brushes to 3. I don't think I get quite enough use from the Kent - considering I so rarely bowl lather - and so it might be time to rehouse it. I'll have a think. My SOC boar should also be concerned.

Diptyque Volutes is nice but doesn't particularly move me. Serge Noire - impressive, but a scrubber.

Well Dick, it's no surprise you'd most likely take to one of those Old Types. And you are certainly not alone with your admiration for em. I would say there's probably at least as many favorable impressions as negative. Seeing as how you enjoy and suffer no ill effects from aggressive razors, that kinda head would be nothing special to you.

Now with some of those Old Type designs, the handle seemed a bit light. I would think those heads would perform even better on a handle with some weight to it.

Hah, they shave delightfully do they? Yes, just like butterfly kisses is how it seems to me.

Hot Shower & 3P cream
Vulfix 404
Schick Krona
Ingram (cream of the week)
Gillette Yellow (3)
Witch Hazel
Burberry AS
Juicy Couture Dirty English ASB

Followed the advise and didnt soak the brush whilst in the shower put it in the sink while I dried off and found it had more backbone, even face lathered. A nice cooling shave with the Ingrams.

THURSDAY EVENING

Prep: Hot flannel
Razor: Canadian Tech - 1 shim
Blade: Feather (1)
Brush: Simpsons PJ 2 band
Soap: Nannys French Lavender hard soap - face lathered
Post: Witch hazel and Proraso balm

Am feeling a bit under the weather today so didn't feel up to concentrating with the straight or Cobra.

Nice easy three passes with this combo. No drama, just as required.

Brush: Executive Shaving Silvertip Turnback
Cream: T&H 1805 Face Lathered

Thursday May 16th

Prep: N Spa face wash
Brush: Wilkinson Sword
Cream: D R Harris Arlington
Razor: Murker 37c slant, short handle
Blade: Shark super stainless
Post: Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna.

My second shave with the slant razor from the lending pool, and first with Arlington again from the pool. The cream held up better than the C & E Sienna I am using
at the moment, and the slant gave a nice smooth shave.
