What’s your ultimate/favourite shave cream of all time and why?

My favourite is (was?) TOBS "Shaving Shop" scenet. while typing this I thought to myself I need to buy some more, but it seems to have been discontinued? Does anybody know what happened to that? Similar in a way to Eton College, except lighter, fresher and less of a zesty scent. Close second...

    Im back....for life.

Glad you were born again! I too tried a Mach 3 a while ago. It's the complete weightlessness of the razor that felt the most strange. Plus the noise it makes and horrible limp technique required. Like a cat clawing at a window. Eugh. If you're in a desperate rush to shave there are some half...

    How many de shavers ?

You've only got to look at what the big tobacco companies did when electronic cigarette usage took off to see where this could potentially go. Imagine how quickly the big boys would march to Brussels to promote how dangerous DE blades are if DE shaving became popular enough for them to take...

    Linux users and/or developers?

I've been using Ubuntu for many years with some Debian (and of course Raspbian) in between. I like Mint too! But I can't go full time Linux at home for various reasons (gaming being one of them). Being a sysadmin in a completely Wintel environment I love how refreshingly space age Linux always...

    The perfect shaving bowl?

I use a basic stainless steel bowl, 8.5cm diameter, 5cm in height and I only use creams. Perfect for a medium size brush to build up a nice lather. The height is good for working cream round the edges and I can get a nice rhythm going with the brush without too much wrist effort :D

    Soaps or creams?

Creams all the way for me but mainly for functional reasons. I can't get anything more than a thin watery lather from soap, not without going mad and getting soap lather everywhere - which I suspect is due to the very hard water area I live in. Plus I find the scent from soap far too weak -...

    Canned goop

If anything it's an excuse to buy more until you find the right one for you :). Give Clinique Aloe shave gel a try, it's the best goo I've ever used and it doesn't feel artificial. I always keep some handy in case I'm in a rush.

    " Could I just ask ."...

Haha so true. The other half doesn't let me shop in Aldi alone anymore. I think the final straw was when I went under strict orders to get pasta and tomatoes and came out with a set of pliars and a pair of wellies. The harassment is much better than it was 10 years ago but I mostly shop online...

    Small size tubs

I did go tub mad at first but found myeslf bored of a scent before the end. I second what others have said - get the 'travel' tubes. They obviously last a fair bit less than the tubs but you can have a variety and they stay fresh. I feel less guilty getting the tubes over having many many tubs...

What have you had nice off Santa?

I'd say pretty good I think :). I got some GFT Violet shave cream, GFT San Remo beard oil, a Musgo classic scent bath soap and a bottle of Acqua Di Parma - Arancia Di Capri EDT ready for the summer. I really love the GFT beard oil. It seems to absorb nicely and leaves a dry silky feeling on the...

NEW DE SHAVERS - What to buy to get started...

Believe it or not I'm still on a 100 pack of Shark Super Chrome blades that I bought in March 2013. That's about a year of clean shaving and using 1 blade per week (3 shaves) and then the rest keeping a beard and shaving only my neck and cheeks, trimming the rest with a stubble trimmer...

    Your best DE razor

As an everyday, Muhle R89 hands down. It's solid and super mild, perfect for maintaining a clean face or tidying round a beard. It might not be as satisfying as aggressive razors but for a go-to it's unbeatable to me and I have to be really clumsy to give myself any nicks. Shark Super Chrome are...

Why did the lime feel depressed?

Only used Trumpers & T&H. T&H has a stronger, sweeter scent but it's more synthetic. The aftershave balm is great and very refreshing. I tend to apply it daily during the summer regardless of whether I've shaved or not. Trumpers - If you like limes give the limes Cologne a go. It's like...

do you use a brush stand

I have a chrome one like Rufus. DE handle sits on the side and my lathering bowl is at the bottom with the brush hanging over the top. I used to store the brush in a drawer and it did no harm. My stand is just for display as I shake the water out of the brush after use anyway. It keeps the kit...

can someone please explain the term "shaving den"

I can't stand any clutter in my bathroom. My shaving stand is on display on a shelf but everything else is hidden in a bathroom supplies cupboard. I personally enjoy the process of getting everything out so my habits play into that. My den is temporary and very much like a kid with two chairs...

is it bad to shave everyday

Agree that it's fine - my father in law shaves every evening and he's never had any issues. Although depending on what products you use, it might become costly (or an excuse to buy more if you're a glass half full kind of person). He's OK because he uses soap so only gets through at most 2 per...

    Favourite kebab

Place? Beirut restaurant in Edinburgh. Damn they do a mean chicken shwarma. Does it count as a kebab? I don't know but when I think of a really good kebab I tend to seek out a good Lebanese place over a typical kebab joint. As for a typical kebab dish: As much as I like a proper shish, I'm...

    Mr. Taylor's Shaving Cream

Yeah I love TOBS creams. They seem to have a more 'mousse' consistency too so easier to lather up when it's been sitting there for a while. A lot of creams become almost solid after sitting in a drawer for a while. In fact the Shaving Shop cream is my favourite. Although I just checked the TOBS...

    When to stop spending?

It is cheaper in plain terms, based upon the higher end supermarket brands. The primary reason and biggest factor in this is that DE blades are so much cheaper than cartridges. Buying just the essential supplies to keep you going (blades and soap), you can save up to £100 per year compared to...

Question for the married men: do you ever let your wife use your shaving products?

I'm not married either but living with the fiancée. This probably sounds a bit weird but I did shave one of her armpits with my R89 once (purely coincidence that I was shaving at the sink while she was in the bath and offered to do it when I was finished). It was more a selfish act on my part...
